Special Features:

Sherry-matured single malt and unaged whisky spirit together form the base of this liqueur, complemented by damsons, oranges, cinnamon and anise. Dark Liquor thus brings together Hammerschmiede's whisky production and its long-established range of liqueurs.

Bitter and spicy notes counterbalance the fruity sweetness. Ripe fruits and a hint of exotic fruit also emerge in the finish. The liqueur is bottled at 28% alcohol without added colouring or chill filtration. The 0.7-litre bottle bears a red wax seal.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fruity whisky notes meet damsons and anise.
• Palate: On the palate, plums and oranges combine with impressions of cinnamon rolls and anise biscuits. The flavours are balanced.
• Finish: The finish is lingering, bittersweet and spicy, with ripe fruits and a hint of exotic fruit remaining.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hercynian Distilling Co. / Hammerschmiede is based in Walkenried in the Harz. Since 1985, it has handcrafted spirits, including herbal and fruit liqueurs as well as fruit brandies. In 2002, it began filling spirit into casks for whisky maturation; its first Harz single malt followed in 2005.

For its single malts, the distillery uses French oak washbacks and double distillation in wood-fired pot stills. For Elsburn, the heart of the spirit is collected between approximately 77% and 67% alcohol. Alongside this selection during distillation, cask selection is one of the key decisions in whisky production.
