Special Features:

The Journey Batch 002 matured in sherry, port, Marsala and Malaga casks. It is made from regional barley malt, of which 95% is unpeated and 5% is smoked over wood; this small smoked proportion contributes a subtle smoky note. The six-year-old whisky was bottled in 2026 at 46%, with an edition of 2,464 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

The aromatic profile combines raisins and apricots with mandarin, vanilla and caramel. Coffee and dark chocolate add darker accents, while orange and plum continue the fruity character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals malt, oak, raisins and apricots, accompanied by coffee, vanilla and toffee.
• Palate: The whisky is mild and fruity on the palate, with malt, vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, mandarin, oak and dark chocolate shaping the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is medium in length, combining oak spice and fruity sweetness with chocolate, orange and plum compote.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hercynian Distilling Co. / Hammerschmiede produces Elsburn in Walkenried in the Harz region and bottles the whisky itself. The wort ferments for 70 to 164 hours before being double-distilled in wood-fired pot stills. Maturation takes place predominantly in first-fill casks. Whisky casks have been filled there since 2002, and new bottlings have appeared under the Elsburn name since 2019.
