This blended Scotch gains its distinctive character from its cask finish: after blending, it undergoes further maturation exclusively in sherry-seasoned Spanish oak casks. This brings the sherry influence more clearly to the fore than in the classic Famous Grouse style without obscuring the blend’s smooth texture.

The combination of malt and grain whiskies delivers a fruity, sweet and spicy profile. Fresh citrus and pear meet sultanas, vanilla, dark chocolate and toasted nuts, while dried fruit and warm spices remain present through the long finish. The whisky is bottled at 40% ABV in a 1-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fresh orange and poached pear mingle with cherry blossom, juicy sultanas and cocoa beans, while sweet cinnamon and ginger add warming spice to the fruit.
• Palate: The whisky is smooth and rich on the palate. Oak-accented vanilla, dark chocolate and maple syrup meet toasted almonds and hazelnuts.
• Finish: The finish is rich, smooth and long. Warming dried fruit evokes fruitcake before lingering sweet spice slowly fades.

Distillery/Bottler:

The roots of The Famous Grouse lie in Matthew Gloag’s family business in Perth. The brand represents Scotland’s blending tradition, combining whiskies from several malt and grain distilleries rather than expressing the character of a single distillery.

At the Sample Room 106 blending centre in Glasgow, raw materials, new make spirit, cask profiles, matured whiskies, blends and bottled products undergo sensory assessment. The individual malt and grain whisky casks are also checked before emptying; this step alone involves around 80,000 inspections each year. Selecting and assessing sherry butts and hogsheads from Spain is likewise part of this cask-focused approach.
