Havmanden combines Jamaican rum with a two-stage refinement process on the Danish island of Fanø. First, the rum rests with natural flavouring ingredients, including heather honey from Fanø, sea buckthorn and vanilla from Madagascar. The flavoured spirit then undergoes further maturation in port wine casks.

Within the Fanø Skibsrom range, Havmanden has a bold, spicy character. Alongside dried fruit and caramelised apple, its flavour profile includes vanilla and a subtle sea buckthorn note. Elderflower and muscovado sugar add further accents. At the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2019, Havmanden received a silver medal in the Spiced Rum category.

The spirit is offered at 41.5% alcohol in a bottle containing 0.7 litres with gift packaging. The ship motif and map illustrations on the label and packaging reflect Fanø's maritime history.

Distillery/Bottler:

Fanø Spirits is based on the island of Fanø, on the Wadden Sea coast of western Jutland. Lars Jensen Schou founded the company in 2015 and developed Fanø Skibsrom through his interest in the island's maritime history and natural ingredients. His three children have also been involved in the family business since 2019. The Jamaican rum base is flavoured and further matured on Fanø; when developing new products, the company experiments with combinations of local ingredients and flavouring materials from elsewhere.

Fanø's sailing heritage provides the historical connection: from the mid-18th century, islanders built up a fleet that travelled around the world. By the mid-19th century, Fanø had Denmark's largest fleet after Copenhagen. Spirits formed part of ships' provisions and were modified with fruit, spices and sweetening ingredients. Fanø Spirits draws on this practice with its flavoured Skibsrom range.
