Special Features:

The 2023 release brings together bourbon-cask-matured single malt and whiskeys finished in Oloroso and Pedro-Ximénez sherry casks. This marriage combines their different cask influences: creamy notes from ex-bourbon maturation meet a pronounced sherry character with dark fruit aromas.

For the second annual release, Master Distiller Paul Corbett deliberately chose a stronger sherry influence than before to balance the woody notes from bourbon maturation. The selection included malt whiskey distilled in 2001. The worldwide release comprised 8,000 bottles. The whiskey was bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, honeydew melon and lychee combine with bold vanilla fudge notes. Pear drops and soft leather round out the aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, vanilla fudge and dried fruit meet dark chocolate with orange oil. Notes of freshly cracked hazelnuts add to the flavours.
• Finish: Sweet fudge, candied cherries and fruitcake linger on the finish. Spicy notes also bring a drying sensation.

Distillery/Bottler:

Powerscourt Distillery is located on the Powerscourt Estate in Enniskerry, County Wicklow. It occupies a former mill building dating from the 1730s. Since 2018, the distillery has produced its own malt and pot still whiskey using three pot stills. The equipment, designed by Forsyths in Scotland, allows both double and triple distillation.

The older Fercullen bottlings come from Cooley Distillery stocks. Noel Sweeney oversaw whiskey production there for decades before becoming Powerscourt’s first Master Distiller. For the 21-year-old Fercullen, Powerscourt selects and marries the matured whiskeys and takes responsibility for the release.
