Special Features:

This rum combines maturation on Ecuador’s Pacific coast with an extended finish in northern Germany. It comes from Manabí and is made from molasses. After eight years in its country of origin, it spent a further two years in a former sherry cask. This gives it a total maturation period of ten years; the bottling comes from a single cask.

Dark fruit, caramel and nutty sherry notes shape its full-bodied character. Oak spice provides a counterpoint to the sweetness, while the finish turns dry. FRC bottles the rum at 46.5% in 0.7-litre bottles without added colouring. The dark bottle bears a red label featuring the brand’s ship’s wheel and is offered without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Concentrated raisins and dark plums lead on the nose. They are joined by sherry notes and dark caramel, with a hint of vanilla.
• Palate: The rum is smooth and full-bodied on the palate. Caramel and toffee meet oak spice and sweet, nutty sherry notes.
• Finish: The long finish begins with dried plums and raisins before turning dry with subtle oak. Roasted nuts round out the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

FRC, the Flensburg Rum Company, is a brand of Oldman Spirits, based in Jübek in Schleswig-Holstein. The company also owns the Spirits of Old Man and Captain Cane brands. FRC focuses mainly on single-cask and small-batch bottlings. Alongside these releases, the company develops its own rum blends and provides bottling services for other clients.

Until 2019, bottles at Oldman Spirits were still filled, labelled and packed by hand. The company subsequently expanded its cask warehouse and introduced semi-automatic and fully automatic bottling lines. Its operations thus combine the development of its own spirits with cask storage and bottling services.
