This ten-year-old single malt from the Scottish Lowlands was finished in sherry and ex-Islay whisky casks. The fruity, spicy influence of the sherry casks meets the subtle smoke imparted by the Islay casks. The bottling contains 0.7 litres at 46% alcohol and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Stewed apple, marzipan, orange and sherry define its fruity and nutty side. Vanilla and sweet oak are accompanied by nutmeg, cinnamon and restrained peat smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals stewed apple, marzipan, orange and sherry alongside spicy nuances and a trace of carob.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet oak and vanilla combine with robust spice, clove and subtle peat smoke.
• Finish: The long finish brings together nutmeg, cinnamon and oak, followed by gentle smoke and lingering spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Claxton's is an independent bottler; the distillery that produced this Lowland single malt is not disclosed. At Dalswinton Bond in Dumfries and Galloway, the company uses restored 19th-century stone buildings and granaries for both traditional dunnage storage and modern cask warehousing. Claxton's specifically sources different types of casks for maturation and regularly assesses the whiskies resting in them to determine when they are ready for bottling.
