Special Features:

A 16-month finish in a toasted first-fill Tawny Port wine barrique shapes this single-cask release from the Cask Masters series. Glen Elgin distilled the single malt on 16 April 2012; Brave New Spirits bottled the twelve-year-old whisky from cask #2319606/2012 on 13 March 2025. The release comprises 332 bottles at 56.9% alcohol.

The sweetness of ripe stone fruit and pear contrasts with peppery herbal notes and toasted oak, while a hint of charcoal adds a slightly bitter edge. The Tawny Port cask contributes a distinct wine-fruit character without obscuring the fruity malt. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

The black capsule identifies this cask-strength release as a Distiller’s Cut. Inspired by the Japanese paper-cutting art of Kirigami, the label displays the age, cask type and bottling details.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Ripe stone fruit and mirabelle plum compote appear on the nose alongside dried fruit and honey. Herbs, white pepper and toasted wood complement the fruit.
• Palate: On the palate, juicy mirabelle plum and pear drops mingle with cherries and chocolate. Candied peel, white pepper, herbs and toasted oak add spice to the full-bodied impression.
• Finish: Fruity Port wine notes and delicate caramel linger in the warm finish. Charcoal and dry spices add a slightly bitter edge.

Distillery/Bottler:

The relatively small Glen Elgin Distillery lies in the heart of Speyside and draws its water from springs near Millbuies Loch. It produced the single malt for this release; independent bottler Brave New Spirits selected and bottled the whisky from the Tawny Port barrique.

Founded in 2020, Brave New Spirits is based in Glasgow, where it also operates a whisky warehouse. For Cask Masters, it selects individual casks for their character and maturation. The series combines familiar cask types with less conventional finishes and presents the key details of each release on its label.
