After its initial maturation in bourbon hogsheads, this Glen Garioch spent three years finishing in first-fill Saint-Julien wine barriques. The casks, which had previously held Bordeaux red wine, complemented its fruity Highland character; the French oak tannins softened during the finishing period. The whisky was distilled in 2010. Murray McDavid brought together the whisky from casks 2100790 to 2100793 and bottled it in autumn 2024 at 13 years old for the Benchmark range. The limited release comprises 1,213 bottles at 52.1%.
Fruit, sweetness and spice sit alongside a clearly defined malt character. Strawberry, vanilla cream and marzipan shape the nose, while spiced apple, currants and sweet oak define the palate. Fresh malt and gentle spice combine with a subtle cocoa note on the finish. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Founded in 1797 in Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire, Glen Garioch is one of the long-established distilleries of the eastern Highlands. Its founders, the Manson brothers, came from a farming family, and the operation originally included a brewery. Following a temporary closure in 1995, Glen Garioch resumed production in 1997 using unpeated malt. The spirit for this release was distilled there in 2010.
Murray McDavid was founded in 1994 by London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin together with Gordon Wright of Springbank Distillery. From its early years, the independent bottler focused on maturation in different cask types, particularly high-quality wine casks. It is based at Coleburn Distillery in Speyside. For this Glen Garioch, Murray McDavid was responsible for cask selection, the Saint-Julien finish and its release within the Benchmark range.
