A three-and-a-half-year sherry finish shapes this Glen Garioch from Murray McDavid’s Benchmark range. Distilled in 2010, the single malt first matured in bourbon hogsheads, then in first-fill Pedro Ximénez barriques from Ximénez-Spinola in Jerez. The cask partner produces sherry as a drinking wine; the barriques are not merely treated with wine for subsequent whisky maturation.
Murray McDavid released the 14-year-old whisky with its Spring Release 2025. Casks 2100880, 2100881 and 2100882 yielded 913 bottles at 51.6% alcohol. Sweet cask notes sit alongside herbs, stone fruit and oily malt. The whisky was bottled without chill filtration or added colouring.
