Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 44.3% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
Exceptionally long maturation defines this single-cask release: distilled in 1951, the Glen Grant spent 73 years in first-fill sherry puncheon 2759 before Gordon & MacPhail bottled it on 5 February 2025. The cask yielded just 52 bottles of 0.7 litres at 44.3%. The whisky retains its natural colour and was not chill-filtered.
The design of The Dram Takers Collection draws on the imagery of the medieval Book of Kells. Two “dram takers” raising their glasses together represent the tradition of sharing a special single malt on meaningful occasions.
Despite its considerable age, the whisky is smooth and balanced. Green apple and gentle hazelnut meet vanilla, malt and a hint of wheat, while a light oak note accompanies the other impressions. The long finish combines restrained sweetness with hazelnut and vanilla.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, green apple and gentle hazelnut meet a delicate note of vanilla and subtle malt.
- Palate: The palate is smooth and balanced, with sweet malt, nutty depth and a hint of wheat. A light oak note completes the harmonious profile.
- Finish: The finish is long, combining restrained sweetness with hazelnut and vanilla.
Distillery/Bottler:
John and James Grant founded The Glen Grant in Rothes, Speyside, in 1840. Under James “The Major” Grant, the distillery acquired its tall, slender stills and water-cooled purifiers. This equipment allows the alcohol vapours to be purified particularly thoroughly and helps shape the distillate’s light, floral character.
Gordon & MacPhail was founded in Speyside in 1895 and evolved from a merchant and bottler into a specialist in selecting and maturing single malts in its own casks. For The Dram Takers Collection, the family-owned company selects whiskies from historic Scottish distilleries that have matured in Gordon & MacPhail’s own casks. For this release, the spirit was distilled at Glen Grant, while Gordon & MacPhail was responsible for its maturation and bottling.
