Special Features:

This Glen Grant spent its 31 years of maturation in a single bourbon hogshead previously used to mature whisky. It was laid down in October 1991 and bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company as Batch 2 at 44.4%. The long maturation brings fruity and sweet notes together with distinct oak and a creamy mouthfeel.

Limited to 264 bottles, this release belongs to The End of the World series, whose labels explored various apocalyptic scenarios in 2024. Here, the theme is a solar flare: James “The Major” Grant looks back from space at the threatened Earth. The bottle contains 0.5 litres of whisky with no added colouring and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Delicate citrus notes recall candied orange peel, joined by dried apricots and figs, as well as peaches in syrup. Vanilla becomes more prominent over time, while oak blends into the aromatic profile. Prunes and a honey-like note in the figs complement the fruity impressions.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft and creamy on the palate. Butterscotch, a buttery caramel flavour, combines with pineapple in syrup and mango. Gentle spice notes accompany the clearly discernible oak.
• Finish: Delicate spice notes emerge on the finish, accompanying the lingering, pronounced oak flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

John and James Grant founded Glen Grant in Speyside in 1840. When James “The Major” Grant took over the distillery in 1872, he expanded it and introduced tall, slender stills with water-cooled purifiers. These devices condense some of the rising vapours and return heavier components to the still. This helps produce the light spirit style for which Glen Grant is known. The Victorian garden, established in 1886, was also the Major’s creation; he collected plants and fruit from his travels there.

Founded in 2012, That Boutique-y Whisky Company is an independent bottler. The company selects whiskies from different distilleries, including casks whose character differs from the distillery’s standard range, and also creates its own blends. Its hand-drawn labels tell stories about the distilleries or the theme of a series. For this single malt, Glen Grant produced the whisky, while That Boutique-y Whisky Company was responsible for its selection and release.
