Finishing in a small Oloroso sherry octave shapes this single-cask release, which is limited to 78 bottles. The Speyside single malt was distilled on 28 October 2008, matured for a total of 16 years and spent its final maturation period in the octave. Duncan Taylor bottled the whisky from cask 7041249 on 4 December 2024 as part of The Octave range.

An octave holds only about one eighth of the volume of a standard cask. This provides more internal wood surface relative to the volume of whisky, intensifying its interaction with the wood and supporting the finish’s pronounced fruit, spice and sherry character.

The whisky was bottled at 49.9% in bottles containing 0.7 litres. It contains no colouring and was not chill-filtered. Dark dried fruit and spices lead into toffee, caramel, roasted nuts and delicate chocolate; the long finish combines gentle sweetness with dry wood notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, intense sherry notes and dark dried fruit combine with clove and cinnamon.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied on the palate, with toffee, caramel, roasted nuts and a delicate note of chocolate.
• Finish: The finish is long, spicy and gently sweet, ending on a dry wood note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Moray stands west of Elgin on the banks of the Lossie and has produced Speyside single malt since 1897. The distillery works with malted barley, water and copper stills. Wood finishes are part of its approach, while its house style is generally light, fruity and not smoky.

Duncan Taylor is the independent bottler behind this single-cask release. Following its Oloroso octave finish, the company released the 16-year-old whisky in The Octave range, with a total of 78 bottles.
