Special Features:

This ten-year-old small batch was distilled on 25 August 2014 and initially matured for eight years in ex-bourbon casks. The unpeated whisky was then finished in selected Mexican tequila casks before Glen Moray bottled it at its natural cask strength of 55.2% on 23 December 2024. Limited to 474 bottles, the release is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

The tenth release in the Warehouse 1 series emerged from Glen Moray’s first experiments with tequila casks. The finish adds herbal, earthy and spicy impressions to the distillery’s soft, fruity Speyside style. This powerful bottling combines an oily texture with sweet cask notes and increasingly dry oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with creamy vanilla custard, currants, toasted almonds and warm baking spices. Pepper, fruitcake, soft stone fruit, green apple, fresh oak, butter, furniture polish, light floral notes and a herbal, nutty agave accent then develop. A little water makes the herbal notes more pronounced and adds a faint wisp of smoke and a touch of dust.
• Palate: The whisky feels oily on the palate. Earthy tones, fresh thyme, delicate citrus notes, pepper, vanilla, increasingly dry oak and a slight saline note mingle with creamy malt, honey-sweet rye bread and a subtle impression of aged tequila. With water, the salinity becomes stronger, while minerality and light citrus notes also emerge more clearly.
• Finish: The long finish becomes increasingly dry, bringing together robust oak, buttery agave, toffee, dried peach, estery fruit and a delicate chilli heat. Intense spice eventually fades into old leather and polished oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glen Moray Distillery has been producing whisky in Elgin, on the banks of the River Lossie, since 1897. It grew out of the former Elgin West Brewery. Even the first new make produced there was filled into an unusually broad selection of casks for the time, including Marsala and sherry casks.

This long-standing engagement with different cask types also shapes the Warehouse 1 series, in which Glen Moray presents experimental maturations and finishes as limited distillery bottlings. For this small batch, the whisky first matured in bourbon casks and was subsequently finished in tequila casks before Glen Moray bottled it at cask strength.
