Special Features:

This ten-year-old Glen Spey is part of the Claxton's Exclusives series and comes from a PX Sherry Quarter Cask. It was distilled on 15 October 2015 and bottled from a single cask on 27 April 2026 at a cask strength of 58%. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and retains its natural colour.

A smaller quarter cask provides a larger internal wood surface area in relation to the volume of liquid. This allows the cask previously seasoned with Pedro Ximénez sherry to have a particularly pronounced influence on the whisky: dark fruit and rich sweetness meet assertive spice, ensuring that its character is not defined solely by sweet PX notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dark raisins and ripe plums take centre stage on the nose. Forest honey and vanilla add sweetness, while cinnamon and black pepper provide a spicy counterpoint.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and concentrated on the palate. Caramel and honey frame dark cherries, while cinnamon and piquant black pepper keep the fruity sweetness in balance.
• Finish: The long finish becomes increasingly spicy. Anise and black pepper come to the fore before a delicate almond sweetness provides a softer contrast. Fruit and spice remain present for a long time.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Spey is located in Rothes, in the heart of Speyside. James Stuart converted a disused mill there into the Mill of Rothes distillery in 1878; after its sale to W&A Gilbey, it was renamed Glen Spey in 1887. Bottlings bearing the distillery's name are comparatively rare.

Claxton's is an independent bottler that operates the Dalswinton Bond in Dumfries and Galloway. On this historic estate, traditional dunnage warehouses stand alongside modern racked warehouses. The company deliberately sources different cask types and sizes for maturation, regularly monitors the spirits as they develop and also releases single-cask bottlings.

For this release, Claxton's selected and bottled the ten-year-old Glen Spey from the PX Sherry Quarter Cask.
