Special Features:

This GlenAllachie matured for 14 years in Koval Bourbon Barrel No. 2470. Made from American white oak, the barrel held around 113 litres. At this size, its inner wood surface was larger relative to the volume of whisky than in a larger cask, allowing more intensive contact with the wood during maturation.

The distillery distilled the whisky on 8 November 2010. It was bottled on 5 December 2024 at 62.4% alcohol; the single cask selected for Germany yielded 149 bottles. The whisky is neither coloured nor chill-filtered.

Orange blossom, honeycomb, heather honey and vanilla give the cask profile a floral, sweet side, while mocha, almond butter, chocolate and roasted notes add a darker accent. Apple, pear, candied tropical fruit, citrus fruit, banana chips and cherry join cinnamon, caramel and brown sugar.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals creamy vanilla, cooked pear, sweet lemon and orange juice. Grilled honeycomb, mocha, almond butter, dried apple and dried pear follow. Butter biscuits, honey and candied ginger complement gentle wood warmth, cinnamon and notes of heather. Candied tropical fruit comes first, followed by biscuit dough and chocolate. A slightly sharp alcoholic edge is also noticeable; later, light roasted notes and a little coffee emerge.
• Palate: White pepper, ginger and anise come forward on the palate, accompanied by botanical herbal notes and grapefruit peel. Herbal honey, lightly burnt sugar, salted caramel and vanilla then develop. The palate opens with chocolate, alongside roasted notes and spices, before vanilla appears. The high alcohol content brings noticeable heat. A little water softens it and makes the spicy notes more distinct alongside the sweetness. Heather honey, vanilla and caramel lead on the palate, followed by citrus fruit, cinnamon and banana chips. Cherries and toasted brown sugar round out the impression.
• Finish: The fairly long finish fades with fresh wood shavings, spices and vanilla. Pronounced sweetness and alcoholic heat also linger in the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

GlenAllachie is a Speyside distillery whose whisky was long used primarily in blends. Built in 1967, it began production in 1968. It has been independent since Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson acquired it in 2017; its first own core range of single malts appeared in 2018.

The distillery was designed for a production process run largely by gravity. The GlenAllachie Distillers Co Ltd is responsible for the distillery bottling of the whisky from cask No. 2470.
