Glendronach House Editions Venetian Room is part of a permanent travel-retail range comprising three city-inspired single malts. Master Blender Rachel Barrie developed the House Editions to mark the distillery’s 200th anniversary; this release interprets the Venetian theme through maturation in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks alongside Italian Amarone red wine casks.

The two types of sherry cask anchor the whisky in the house’s classic style, while the Amarone casks add an Italian wine influence. This combination is expressed through dark cherries, blackcurrants and dates, together with nutty and chocolatey dessert notes. This non-smoky single malt is offered at 46% in a bottle containing 0.7 litres and comes with gift packaging; no colouring is added.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines dark cherries with blackcurrants and dates. Tiramisu, cocoa and amaretti complement the fruit, while vanilla spice adds a delicate accent.
• Palate: The palate opens with honey-sweet red plum and almond liqueur, followed by maraschino cherry, chocolate-coated hazelnut and Black Forest gateau.
• Finish: The lingering finish leaves forest berries and hazelnut cream, accompanied by caramel macchiato.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glendronach was founded in 1826 in Scotland’s Valley of Forgue by a group of local farmers led by James Allardice. It was among Scotland’s early officially licensed distilleries and developed a close association with maturation in sherry casks.

Its traditional production environment includes washbacks made from Scottish larch, distinctively shaped stills and classic dunnage warehouses. Within the house style, Pedro Ximénez casks contribute deep fruit notes, while Oloroso casks bring drier, nuttier facets. Venetian Room deliberately expands this familiar interplay with Italian Amarone red wine casks.
