Four decades in Oloroso sherry casks shape Glenfarclas Warehouse Edition. This single malt is bottled at 43%, without chill filtration or added colouring. Its red wooden box echoes the doors of the Glenfarclas warehouses; the metallic styling of the age statement and the grey interior complete the warehouse-inspired design.

For the 2018 relaunch, George Grant wanted to preserve the existing style and flavour of the forty-year-old Glenfarclas as closely as possible. The new presentation thus accompanied a release deliberately focused on continuity.

The broad aromatic range extends beyond sherried fruit: fruitcake, walnuts, dried plums and figs meet honeyed malt, maple syrup and sweets. Creamy coffee notes and bitter cocoa sit alongside dark oak, leather, tobacco and pronounced spice. Rancio and marmalade add to these mature impressions.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is fresh and sweet, with fruity Turkish delight and the rich aroma of freshly ground Java coffee beans. Blackberries, dried plums, a delicate marzipan note and dark chocolate round out the bouquet.
• Palate: A sweet opening is followed by caramel and chocolate. The sherry character grows stronger, bringing out dark chocolate, raisins and sultanas. Intense mocha notes and raisins soaked in sherry define the full-bodied palate, while pepper and old oak add spicy accents.
• Finish: The finish lingers, combining sweetness with a clean, dry impression. Bitter chocolate and delicate leather notes remain.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenfarclas Distillery lies in Speyside at the foot of Ben Rinnes, with its water sourced from the surrounding area. Founded in 1836, the distillery has belonged to the Grant family since 1865. J. & G. Grant runs the independent family business; the forty-year-old single malt is an official Glenfarclas bottling.

Glenfarclas retains control over its production and continues to use directly fired stills. These produce a robust, full-bodied spirit whose style is suited to long maturation. Storage in cool, traditional dunnage warehouses and the selection of sherry casks are fundamental to this approach. John L. S. Grant personally selects the distillery’s Oloroso casks at the family-run bodega José y Miguel Martín.
