Special Features:

Full maturation in sherry casks defines this 25-year-old Glengoyne. The casks are made from European oak and, after holding sherry, most were filled with whisky for the first time. Ripe fruit and spice meet a pronounced oak note; there was no separate finishing period.

The single malt is bottled at 48% alcohol without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers red berries, dark cherries and currants, alongside ripe grapes, brown sugar and old leather.
• Palate: On the palate, strawberries and stewed fruit combine with orange marmalade. Oak, cinnamon and cardamom add spice to the full-bodied flavour.
• Finish: The long finish brings liquorice and gentle spices, becoming gradually drier.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glengoyne Distillery has made whisky since 1833. It dries the barley for its malt with air rather than peat smoke. This contributes to the distillery’s non-smoky character; slow distillation and cask selection are further hallmarks of its approach.

Fermentation for this whisky lasts 56 hours. The fermented liquid is then distilled twice using three stills with tall, curved necks. Glengoyne’s preparation of its sherry casks takes six years. Sherry casks have been part of the distillery’s style since the 19th century. Ian Macleod Distillers acquired the distillery in 2003.
