Glengoyne White Oak occupies a distinctive place in the core range: for the first time, a Glengoyne was matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks and new American white oak casks (Quercus alba). All the casks come from North America and were charred for less than one minute, allowing the fresh distillery character to remain clearly perceptible. This Highland single malt is bottled at 48%, with natural colour and without chill filtration.

The idea behind White Oak draws on the migration of the geese that spend the winter in the valley near Glengoyne before travelling to North America in summer. This connection with North America is reflected in the whisky’s exclusive maturation in bourbon casks and new American oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals lively oak and vanilla cream, accompanied by bright citrus fruit, sponge cake, crisp red apple and ginger spice. Honey, poached pear and desiccated coconut add further fruit and sweetness, while unripe banana and a hint of violet provide delicate accents.
• Palate: The palate is smooth and playful. Crème brûlée, fruit gummies, candied lemon, marmalade cake and pineapple define the profile. Creamy coconut, toasted oak and a hint of white pepper add further layers.
• Finish: The rounded, medium-length finish combines plenty of toasted oak and caramel with some honey, coconut and delicate spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glengoyne Distillery produces White Oak and bottles it for Ian Macleod Distillers. The independent Scottish family-owned company acquired the distillery in 2003. Glengoyne stands in the southernmost Highlands, on the western edge of the Campsie Fells near Loch Lomond; the boundary with the Lowlands runs through the distillery grounds.

Founded as Burnfoot in 1833, the distillery has been known as Glengoyne since 1905. Its barley is dried exclusively with air and without peat smoke. For White Oak, a 56-hour fermentation is followed by double distillation in three swan-neck stills. Glengoyne’s particularly slow distillation is intended to produce a smooth, fruit-forward spirit that is subsequently shaped by the American oak casks.
