Special Features:

This set makes it easy to compare the influence of different casks. It contains 0.1 litres each of Glenmorangie The Original 12 at 40%, The Lasanta 15 at 43% and The Quinta Ruban 14 at 46%. The Original matures for twelve years in bourbon casks; The Lasanta uses bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, while The Quinta Ruban uses bourbon and Portuguese port casks. All three are distillery bottlings presented in a gift pack.

The Original’s bourbon-cask maturation pairs citrus, peach and vanilla with honey. The Lasanta offers a sweeter counterpoint of raisins, walnut and toffee, spiced with cinnamon and clove; dates and bitter orange marmalade are also part of its flavour spectrum. In The Quinta Ruban, mandarin and marshmallow sit alongside dark chocolate, peppermint and black pepper. Tasting them side by side reveals a bright, fruity core and the distinct accents brought by sherry and port casks.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The Original 12 has aromas of citrus fruit and ripe peach, softened by gentle vanilla. In The Quinta Ruban 14, fruity and floral notes meet tart orange, a little sandalwood and dark chocolate.
• Palate: Vanilla emerges first in The Original 12, followed by floral fruitiness. The Quinta Ruban 14 feels velvety on the palate. Fruit sweets and sweet mandarin mingle with chocolate truffle and mint chocolate.
• Finish: The Original 12 has a long finish that brings out almond and coconut, with a hint of maple syrup lingering afterwards. The Quinta Ruban 14 finishes long with chocolate, mint and nuts, followed by a hint of tobacco.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenmorangie Distillery is in Tain in the Scottish Highlands. William and Anne Matheson began establishing the distillery there in 1843. Its exceptionally tall stills favour a light, fruity spirit. Glenmorangie builds different maturation styles on that foundation: the set pairs The Original, matured exclusively in bourbon casks, with two bottlings whose cask selections add sherry or port influences. All three whiskies come from the distillery and are bottled under the Glenmorangie brand.
