Every Armagnac used in Darroze Grands Assemblages 40 Years Old has matured for at least four decades. The blend brings together Armagnacs made from Ugni Blanc and Baco from different terroirs and vintages. The age statement refers to the youngest Armagnac in the blend. After such a long maturation, the quality of the oak casks is particularly important: their selection contributes to the Armagnac's complexity and finesse.

The layered flavour profile includes vanilla, orange peel and clementine alongside toffee, spices and dark chocolate. Sandalwood and black tea complement these impressions.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals pronounced notes of dried figs, walnuts and vanilla. A hint of leather complements the bouquet.
• Palate: On the palate, candied fruit and cocoa combine with subtle spice to create a layered, harmonious impression.
• Finish: The long finish leaves a warm, soft impression. Dry oak notes shape the lingering flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

Today's selection builds on Francis Darroze's first three casks from 1974. His search for distinctive Armagnacs had begun in Bas-Armagnac in the late 1960s. The house now works with around thirty estates and holds extensive stocks in its cellars in Roquefort and Labastide-d'Armagnac. Marc Darroze leads the family business and oversees the selection and maturation of the spirits.

Alongside the Armagnacs from individual estates offered separately, Darroze creates the Les Grands Assemblages range. Different terroirs, vintages and styles are blended so that their characteristics complement one another and the blends maintain a consistent flavour profile and balance over time.
