This miniature contains Darroze's Les Grands Assemblages 40 years old in a 0.05-litre format. All the Ugni Blanc and Baco Armagnacs in the blend are at least four decades old: the age statement refers to its youngest component. After such prolonged maturation, the quality of the oak casks plays an important part in allowing the Armagnac to develop finesse alongside complexity.

The flavour opens with a brief sweetness, vanilla, orange peel and juicy clementine before moving into a dry finish. The blend thus combines bright citrus fruit with the darker, spicy and woody impressions of its long maturation. The Armagnac is bottled at 43%, without added colouring or chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The expressive nose combines fresh-smelling wood notes with clearly perceptible cinnamon and liquorice.
• Palate: The Armagnac reveals an intense aromatic character on the palate, with candied fruit, cocoa and subtle spice. Rounded tannins give it structure.
• Finish: The long finish is dry. A toffee note unfolds, bringing out nuances of vanilla, spices, dark chocolate, sandalwood and black tea.

Distillery/Bottler:

The selected Armagnacs mature under Darroze's care in Roquefort and Labastide-d'Armagnac. For Les Grands Assemblages, the house brings together stocks from different terroirs, vintages and styles. This considered blending is intended to make their different qualities complement one another and preserve each blend's character over time. Darroze handles selection, further maturation, blending and bottling.

The family story goes back to Jean Darroze's restaurant in Villeneuve-de-Marsan, where his son Francis became acquainted with the wines and Armagnacs of Gascony. In the late 1960s, Francis began selecting spirits from small producers in Bas-Armagnac, allowing them to mature further and bottling them. Today, his son Marc runs the house, whose stocks come from around thirty estates. Alongside the blended Grands Assemblages, Darroze also preserves the individual character of single estates in its Collection Unique.
