Special Features:

The miniature containing 0.05 litres offers Darroze’s 50-year-old Grands Assemblages in a small tasting format. The blend consists of Baco Armagnacs, the youngest of which has matured for fifty years. The Armagnac is bottled at 42%, without colouring or chill filtration.

Despite its considerable age, the fruit remains discernible: dried fruit and candied orange peel sit alongside honey and subtle rancio. Leather, roasted notes, dark chocolate and polished oak add depth, while spices accompany the long finish.

For Armagnacs matured for so long, their remaining freshness and balance determine whether cask maturation is brought to an end or continued. Further maturation is possible in old casks that have already released much of their tannin through prolonged contact with the spirit.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dried fruit and candied orange peel mingle with honey, old leather and dark chocolate. Polished oak and subtle rancio notes complete the aroma.
• Palate: The palate opens smoothly, unfolding notes of prunes, toasted walnuts, espresso and tobacco leaf. Baking spices and candied ginger are accompanied by restrained tannins and dark caramel.
• Finish: The very long finish continues to evolve with dried fruit, dark chocolate, exotic spices and old leather. Oak and a hint of menthol linger at the end.

Distillery/Bottler:

Darroze sources selected eaux-de-vie from independent estates in Bas-Armagnac and oversees their maturation in its own cellars in Roquefort and Labastide d’Armagnac. The family house’s history is closely linked to gastronomy: Jean Darroze ran a restaurant in Villeneuve-de-Marsan and introduced his son Francis to the wines and spirits of Gascony. From the late 1960s onwards, Francis increasingly devoted himself to selecting, maturing and bottling Armagnacs. Today, Marc Darroze leads the house, whose collection is built on collaboration with around thirty estates.

For Les Grands Assemblages, Darroze blends Armagnacs from different terroirs, vintages and styles into age-stated cuvées. The complementary qualities of the individual spirits are intended to maintain a consistent flavour and harmonious balance over time. The age stated on each bottle refers to the youngest Armagnac in the blend.
