Grosperrin's N°58 Héritage comes from a single old cask acquired from an estate. This Fins Bois Cognac belonged to a late Cognac broker who had retained small stocks of particularly old Cognacs from his trading activities. Grosperrin bought the cask from his heirs in 1999. The bottling bears lot number 844, and the bottles are individually numbered.

The Cognac is bottled without colouring or chill filtration. Grosperrin gives the Cognacs in its Collection only a light filtration at ambient temperature. This release contains 0.7 litres at 44.5% alcohol; the bottle is supplied in a leather bag.

Mature rancio and woody notes meet flowers and candied fruit. Orange and apricot add to the fruit character, while grassy and herbal impressions provide a rustic counterpoint.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines delicate spices, undergrowth and dried flowers with pronounced rancio. Alongside these are grassy impressions of stems and leaves, as well as yeast lees, tea, peach leaves and peppermint.
• Palate: On the palate, the Cognac is soft and almost wine-like. Candied fruit, fine wood and liquorice shape the flavour, with orange and apricot adding to the fruit character. A rustic, slightly rough and distinctly grassy side provides a contrast.
• Finish: The long finish has a pleasing gentle sweetness and leaves grassy notes behind.

Distillery/Bottler:

Grosperrin is an independent family house in Saintes that selects Cognacs, continues their maturation and bottles them. Jean Grosperrin first worked as a distiller before becoming a Cognac broker in 1992. This brought him into contact with small producers and their old stocks. In 1999, he began buying selected casks himself and offering their Cognacs individually rather than letting them become part of large blends. His son Guilhem took over the business in 2004, expanding both its stocks and its work with winegrowers.

Since 2012, the house has used 19th-century cellars beside the Charente. Their humid maturation conditions are an important part of its approach. When choosing casks, Grosperrin favours wood with restrained tannins and avoids heavily charring new casks, allowing the spirit's origin and fruit character to remain recognisable. Within the Collection, individual lots are bottled cask by cask and remain traceable through numbered bottles.
