For the Original Small Batch Reserve, Destilerías Manuel Acha selected whiskies matured for 18 years in American, French and Iberian oak casks. Batch 1 was bottled in 2022 at 45%, with an outturn of 2,228 bottles. Made from 100% malted barley, the single malt is chill-filtered, contains no added colouring and comes in a tube.

Walnut, sultana and cashew shape its nutty side, while caramel and chocolate biscuit provide sweetness. Dried apple, almond, honey and leather meet dry oak spice and light wood smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals walnut and cashew notes, sultanas, caramel, chocolate biscuit and vanilla over a base of spicy oak.
• Palate: On the palate, dried apple, almond and honey combine with leather, white pepper and dry oak, while subtle wood smoke rounds out the profile.
• Finish: Toasted malt, delicate spices and dry, toasted oak remain present in the finish, accompanied by a light smoky note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Destilerías Manuel Acha S.A. produces Haran in Amurrio in Spain’s Basque Country and bottles this edition itself. The company’s history dates back to 1831. In 1926, Manuel Acha, a nephew of the founder, travelled to Scotland to study whisky production; Haran grew out of the knowledge he acquired there. The brand name means “valley” in Basque.
