Hatozaki Small Batch - Pure Malt Whisky is a blended malt composed from fewer than 20 casks per batch. Its foundation consists of five- to six-year-old malt whiskies. Whiskies matured in ex-bourbon casks are initially selected for the base composition; portions are then married and matured further in ex-sherry casks before the final blend undergoes additional maturation in Japanese Mizunara oak casks.

The 0.7-litre bottling is bottled at 46% and presented in gift packaging. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Its sensory profile combines malt and cereal notes with dried fruit and honey, followed by subtle smoke in the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals malt and dried fruit.
• Palate: Malt and dried fruit continue on the palate, while honeyed notes emerge.
• Finish: The whisky fades with a subtle smoky note in the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Master Distiller and Blender Kimio Yonezawa developed the Hatozaki whiskies at Kaikyō Distillery. The distillery is located in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture, on the Seto Inland Sea, where sea breezes and saline air help shape the maturation environment.

For Hatozaki, the team first creates base blends that integrate and continue to mature in cask. Depending on how they develop, the blender later selects different proportions, adds further individual whiskies and gives the final composition one last marrying phase.
