The collective selection of matured rum reserves is central to Havana Club Selección de Maestros. The Maestros del Ron Cubano blend selected rums, then return the blend to casks whose wood is chosen specifically for its aromatic potential. After this maturation phase, they jointly determine the composition of the final blend. The rum undergoes several stages of maturation in oak casks, using American white oak.

Selección de Maestros belongs to the Icónica Collection and is bottled at cask strength at 45%. Its warm amber colour has a deep red glint. The bottle design draws on sun rays and Havana’s interlocking ironwork, reflecting the rum masters’ collaborative work. A wooden stopper embossed with the Giraldilla, Havana’s emblem, seals the bottle.

The rum is suited to slow sipping, neat or over ice. This version contains 0.7 litres and is offered without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is light, with roasted pecans and spices. Tobacco and wood add to the bouquet.
• Palate: The opening is rounded and lively. On the palate, the rum is full-bodied, combining cocoa and coffee with sweetish tobacco and dark spice notes.
• Finish: Smoky oak notes and spices meet candied fruit on the finish. The fruity sweetness counterbalances the wood and spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

At Havana Club, the Maestros del Ron Cubano oversee production from the selection of Cuban molasses through to maturation in oak casks in the island’s tropical climate. Their training takes at least 15 years. Their work therefore extends beyond blending finished rums to the decisions that shape their development during production and ageing.

An important foundation of the prestige rums is the continuous ageing process that Don Navarro developed for Havana Club Añejo 7 Años in the 1970s. Matured rums are blended together and returned to cask. Asbel Morales is responsible for the Icónica Collection’s production process and carries this approach forward.
