Hayman’s Sloe Gin follows a traditional English family recipe: wild-harvested sloes steep in the distillery’s own London Dry Gin for up to four months. A small amount of natural sugar is then added to balance the sloe liqueur. This version contains 0.7 litres and is bottled at 26%.

The long maceration brings together the tart, plum-like sloe fruit and the spicy character of London Dry Gin. Sloe, subtle plum and almond shape the fruity profile, complemented by juniper, cinnamon and gently warming spice. The deep red colour comes from the steeped fruit. No additional colouring, vanilla or other flavourings are added.

Its balance of fruity sweetness and acidity can be enjoyed neat or in classic drinks. It is paired with sparkling wine in a Sloe Royale, while Citrus Tonic also makes a suitable accompaniment. With soda water, it can be served as a traditional Fizz.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals distinct sloe fruit, accompanied by gin aromas and a delicate hint of almond.
• Palate: On the palate, tart sloe fruit and sweetness are balanced. Gin notes emerge from the fruit and continue to develop towards the finish.
• Finish: The finish is warm and fruity, with lightly spicy gin notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hayman Distillers produces the Sloe Gin at Hayman’s Distillery in Balham, southwest London. Its own London Dry Gin provides the base and takes two days to make according to the family recipe. For the Sloe Gin, this is followed by several months of maceration with wild-harvested sloes.

The family’s history began in 1863, when pharmacist James Burrough bought a small gin distillery in Chelsea. He developed various gins, including Beefeater. Today, James and Miranda Hayman carry on the family tradition in its fifth generation. The Sloe Gin combines this gin-making expertise with the traditional production of a fruit-led sloe liqueur.
