Hellyers Road Double Cask in GP

Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 46.2% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No

Special Features:

Hellyers Road Double Cask is a Tasmanian small-batch single malt with a two-stage maturation. The whisky initially matures for at least five years in 200-litre ex-bourbon casks made from American oak.

For the second maturation, the whisky is transferred to French oak barriques that previously held Tasmanian Pinot Noir. It is bottled at 46.2%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Candied orange and stewed sultanas define the fruity side. Cinnamon, clove and cereal notes provide spice and structure before the whisky fades into a restrained, soft finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals candied orange and stewed sultanas.
• Palate: On the palate, cinnamon and clove meet delicate cereal notes.
• Finish: The finish is restrained and soft.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hellyers Road Distillery produces and bottles this Tasmanian single malt itself. The distillery emerged from a dairy-farming cooperative in Tasmania’s remote north-west in 1997. Several generations of the original farming families remain responsible for the operation today.

Experience gained in dairy processing informed the construction of the distillery’s own unconventional pot stills. Hellyers Road makes its wash from Tasmanian barley and was among the early adopters of French oak casks that had previously been used to mature Tasmanian Pinot Noir.
