Special Features:

Cinco means five in Spanish and refers to the five types of sherry cask used: Oloroso, Fino, Pedro Ximénez, Amontillado and Palo Cortado. The eleven casks were initially intended for an Advanced Masterclass, but the whisky from them was ultimately married to create the limited Cinco bottling.

Cinco consists exclusively of unpeated whisky that first matured in bourbon casks for between 2.66 and 5.64 years before being finished in the five different types of sherry cask. At bottling, the whisky components were between 6.76 and 8.68 years old, with an average age of 8.48 years. Its declared age is six years.

Ten of the eleven casks are made from Spanish oak. The single American oak cask contributed sweeter notes to balance the spice of the European oak.

High Coast bottled a total of 5,195 0.5-litre bottles at 50.5%. Cinco is neither coloured nor chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines vanilla and spicy notes with clove, raisin, hazelnut and cedarwood.
• Palate: The palate brings red apples, hazelnuts, dark berries, nutmeg and milk chocolate.
• Finish: The finish is long and elegant, leaving pronounced vanilla, sherry notes and dried fruit.

Distillery/Bottler:

High Coast Distillery is located in Bjärtrå in Ångermanland, directly beside the Ångermanälven river. A group of whisky-loving friends founded the company in 2007; the copper stills were installed in 2010, when the first whisky cask was also filled. The whisky matures in unheated warehouses, where temperatures follow the pronounced northern Swedish seasons.

For its fruit-forward, unpeated style, the distillery uses clear wort and an average fermentation time of 82.5 hours. Early cuts during distillation help preserve the fruitier components of the spirit. Cinco is a distillery bottling made from this unpeated spirit.
