Special Features:

Founders' Reserve was created as a tribute to High Coast's six founders. The casks were selected together with the group of founders. It was the distillery's first eleven-year-old whisky and was initially released exclusively to subscribers to its newsletter.

The composition comprises 76.7% unpeated whisky matured in 200-litre bourbon casks and 230-litre casks made from new American oak. The remaining 23.3% is peated whisky from 200-litre bourbon casks. Overall, bourbon casks account for 54.1% of the blend and new American oak for 45.9%.

The whisky was bottled at 50.3%, with a total release of 2,000 bottles of 0.5 litres each. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals apple blossom, gooseberry, pencil shavings and creamy caramel, accompanied by a light note of peat smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, ripe pears and vanilla sugar mingle with peat smoke, nutmeg and sweet liquorice.
• Finish: The finish is long and warming, fading with smoke and leather.

Distillery/Bottler:

The roots of High Coast Distillery lie at the former Box power station by the mouth of the Ångermanälven river. Brothers Mats and Per de Vahl developed the idea of establishing a whisky distillery there; the founding group later grew to six people, and the company was formed in 2007. The first whisky cask was filled in 2010, and the company changed its name from Box Destilleri AB to High Coast Distillery AB in 2018.

The distillery uses clear wort and an average fermentation time of 82.5 hours to encourage a fruity base character. Its casks mature in unheated warehouses, where the pronounced temperature changes of northern Sweden influence the interaction between the whisky and the wood.
