Special Features:

For this series, High Coast operates a genuine six-tier solera system on the banks of the Ångermanälven. The five upper tiers hold 200-litre bourbon casks, while the lowest solera tier consists of specially made 225-litre Swedish oak casks. The whisky is transferred gradually from the top to the bottom before being drawn from the lowest casks for bottling.

After each draw, the lower tiers are progressively replenished with whisky from the criaderas directly above them, leaving some of the older whisky in the system. Batch 04 is the fourth released draw. It combines unpeated whiskies aged from six years to just over nine years, bringing together sweet cask notes and fresh fruit with the spicy structure of Swedish oak.

High Coast introduced the edition on 11 October 2023. Batch 04 was bottled at 52.5%, with a release of 1,600 bottles of 0.5 litres each.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals oak and nutmeg with vanilla, coconut and ripe pear.
• Palate: On the palate, honey, clove, anise and toffee meet green apple.
• Finish: Vanilla and black pepper remain present in the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

High Coast Distillery produces the whisky, operates the solera system and bottled Batch 04 itself.

The company was established in 2007 by a group of whisky-loving friends. The copper stills were installed and the first whisky cask was filled in 2010. Initially called Box Destilleri AB, the company was renamed High Coast Distillery AB in 2018.
