Special Features:

Timmer is composed entirely of peated malt whisky and matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks. Quarter Casks with a capacity of 130 litres and Barrels with a capacity of 200 litres are used.

For Timmer, the distillery uses peated malt with a phenol content of 39 to 46 ppm. Its robust smoky profile meets the sweet vanilla of bourbon-cask maturation. With comparable geometry, the smaller Quarter Casks provide more internal wood surface area relative to the volume of whisky, allowing more intensive contact with the cask; the 200-litre Barrels complement the maturation in larger casks.

Timmer means construction timber. Introduced in May 2020, this bottling belongs to the Origins series, through which High Coast explores the history and geography of its homeland. It commemorates the people who floated logs down the Ångermanälven under difficult conditions.

Tasting Notes:

Distillery/Bottler:

High Coast Distillery is located on the Ångermanälven in Ådalen, northern Sweden, and produces Timmer as an official bottling under the High Coast brand. Its first copper stills arrived in 2010, and the first cask was filled that same year. The whisky has carried the name High Coast Whisky since June 2018, while the company was renamed from Box Destilleri AB to High Coast Distillery AB in June 2020.

The distillery works with clear wort and an average fermentation time of 82.5 hours. For its peated spirit, it makes the cuts later to retain more phenols and thus preserve the desired smoky character. The whisky then matures in unheated warehouses, where substantial seasonal temperature fluctuations influence the interaction between the spirit and the oak.
