With Agent Double 01, Isautier brings together two approaches to rum production: 65% Rhum Agricole made from sugarcane juice and 35% traditional molasses rum. The larger Agricole proportion shapes the vegetal character of this white blend. The bottling carries the geographical indication Rhum de La Réunion.

Both rums were distilled in columns in 2021. The molasses rum came off the still at 89%, and the Agricole at 71.1%. Isautier first blended the two spirits at these high strengths, then slowly reduced the alcohol content to 55% in the tropical climate of La Réunion. The result is a white rum expressly intended for sipping as well. It can also be enjoyed over ice or as a cocktail ingredient.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pronounced herbal notes unfold on the nose, recalling freshly cut sugarcane.
• Palate: Vegetal sugarcane notes remain present on the palate. A silky texture provides a counterpoint and balances the flavour.
• Finish: The rum lingers for a long time, leaving a particularly rounded, soft mouthfeel.

Distillery/Bottler:

Louis and Charles Isautier founded the family business on La Réunion in 1845. Over six generations, it became the island's oldest rum distillery still in operation. Since 2008, the estate in Saint-Pierre has also housed La Saga du Rhum, a museum connecting the history of rum with that of the island and its people.

Isautier makes rum from both sugarcane juice and molasses. For its general Agricole production, the sugarcane comes from local growers. It is pressed, and its juice is fermented into a sugarcane wine at approximately 10% alcohol. The subsequent slow distillation takes six hours. This experience with both raw materials underpins the Agent Double range.
