Special Features:

J&B Rare is a Blended Scotch made from 42 malt and grain whiskies. Speyside components from Knockando, Auchroisk, Strathmill and Glen Spey form its malt core; lighter grain whiskies give their fruit, spice and malty body room to develop. All components mature in oak for at least three years, while selected heart malts mature for longer. The Speyside malts are married and then returned to cask for a further three years of maturation. The finished blend is bottled at 40%.

Fruit, grassy freshness and American oak combine with a very subtle smoky note. Vanilla and malty body add fullness to this light blend, while spice notes complement its fruity character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is fruity, grassy and aromatic, with soft apple and pear notes, American oak and a hint of smoke. Nuances of dry wood, citrus and barley round out the aromas.
• Palate: Rich layers of vanilla unfold on the palate alongside fruit, malty body and spice notes.
• Finish: The finish is short, remaining smooth, light and balanced. A subtle note of oak and spice lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Justerini & Brooks developed J&B Rare in the early 1930s as its own Blended Scotch recipe. The historic wine and spirits merchant combines four named Speyside heart malts with other malt and grain whiskies, bringing the total to 42 components. The interplay between these different spirits is central to the blend: lighter grain whiskies provide the foundation, while malt whiskies contribute body, fruit and spice aromas. Selection, differing maturation periods and the balance of these components shape J&B's fresh, fruity style.
