Special Features:

The Gold Edition expands Jaisalmer's botanical selection to a composition of 18 ingredients. These include saffron from India, while the juniper berries and angelica root come from Europe. Green tea, rose, orange and lemon also feature in the recipe, alongside spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and pepper. The gin thus brings together classic gin ingredients and a broad selection of Indian plants and spices.

A distinctive feature is the gold filtration: the gin passes through a filter made of intertwined golden silk filaments, becoming enriched with gold ions in the process. This design references the yellow sandstone buildings of Jaisalmer, the city that gives the gin its name. The Gold Edition is offered at 43% alcohol in a bottle containing 0.5 litres.

At the John Barleycorn Awards 2024, Jaisalmer Gold received 94 points, a Double Gold medal and the award for best gin. For this assessment, the highest-scoring entrants from the first medal round were tasted blind again.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Lively lemon and other citrus notes sit alongside spicy coriander on the nose. Grassy, green accents complement the aromas.
• Palate: The lemon is even zestier on the palate, joined by a delicate note of white citrus pith. Liquorice root accompanies the flavours, with a creamy texture in the background.
• Finish: The medium-length finish is gently warming. Subtle spice notes and citrus oils linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Jaisalmer is produced by Radico Khaitan Limited, whose Rampur Distillery is located in Uttar Pradesh. The company began operating in 1943 under the name Rampur Distillery Company. It initially developed into a supplier and bottler for other spirits producers before beginning to build its own brands with 8PM Whisky in 1998. Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin followed in 2018.

At its Rampur site, Radico Khaitan combines distillation facilities with integrated bottling lines and its own warehouses for malt maturation. Alongside gin, the Rampur Single Malts are also produced there. The name Jaisalmer, however, points to Rajasthan: this former trading city lies in the Thar Desert and is known for its fort, the Maharaja's palace and its Jain temples. The fort and a blackbuck feature in the brand's emblem.
