Jameson Single Pot Still brings together a traditional barley recipe and a varied selection of casks. For the Five Oak Cask Release, malted and unmalted barley undergo triple distillation in copper pot stills. Maturation combines ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks with Irish, European and American oak being used for maturation for the first time. The five cask influences therefore do not represent five different wood species.

The casks previously used for bourbon and sherry contribute dried fruit, vanilla and fudge. The fresh oak adds subtle toasted notes and strengthens the woody spice without overshadowing the characteristic pot still character. The whiskey is bottled at 46% without chill filtration; the bottle contains 0.7 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Cinnamon and nutmeg open the nose alongside toasted oak, honeycomb and salted caramel. Lively fruit notes, creamy fudge, butterscotch and vanilla sit in the background. Over time, the pot still spice grows and mingles with earthy woodland notes and ripe fruit.
• Palate: On the palate, dark chocolate, spiced toffee and ground cinnamon combine with a hint of freshly grated ginger and a little orange zest. Sweet wood notes and touches of smoked wood accompany delicate tannins. The texture remains silky.
• Finish: The delicate fruit notes gradually fade. Spice and oak linger until the end of the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Jameson's history is closely linked to single pot still whiskey. In the 19th century, the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin brought this style to international prominence. The brand later shifted its focus to blended whiskey to appeal to a wider audience. With its single pot still bottling introduced in 2022, Jameson reconnects with this historic production tradition.

The bottling was developed by the team at Midleton Distillery under Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman. Blender Deirdre O’Carroll and her colleagues tested different combinations to bring together robust pot still spice and a smooth overall character. Whiskeys from ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks formed the starting point, with the three fresh oak varieties adding to their profile.
