Special Features:

Jean Fillioux N°1 brings together pronounced fruit aromas, floral freshness and an unusual spicy, woody dimension. It comes from Grande Champagne, the cognac-growing area classified as Premier Cru. This bottling uses Ugni Blanc grown on clay-limestone soils dating from the Cretaceous period. The wine is distilled with its lees in two passes through a traditional still.

The cognac is bottled without colouring at 46% in a 0.5-litre bottle. N°1 received a Superior Gold medal at the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition 2020.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense mandarin and mango aromas stand out on the nose, accompanied by the scent of orange blossom.
• Palate: On the palate, fresh orange and apricot liqueur meet turmeric and rosewood.
• Finish: The long finish feels slightly rough. A subtle note recalls soft orange caramel sweets.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of the family house Jean Fillioux began in 1894 at Domaine de la Pouyade. The estate stands on a hill in Juillac-le-Coq and cultivates 25 hectares of vineyards in the heart of Grande Champagne. Christophe Fillioux carries on the family tradition, with old eaux-de-vie remaining a particular focus of the house.

For winemaking, the house uses pneumatic presses and allows malolactic fermentation to take place after alcoholic fermentation. This converts malic acid into lactic acid. Distillation begins only afterwards, usually no earlier than December. For maturation, Christophe and Pascal Fillioux select casks from various cooperages in the Charente region. They specify slow, prolonged wood toasting at a medium to slightly higher intensity. The different casks broaden the aromatic possibilities when blending their cognacs.
