Smoky whiskies from Scotland’s west coast are blended with whiskies matured in heavily charred oak casks to make Johnnie Walker Double Black. This gives the blend its full-bodied, smoke-forward style.

Double Black takes the style of Johnnie Walker Black Label in a darker, markedly smokier direction. Sweet dried fruit and creamy vanilla contrast with peat smoke and cask spice, while the blended Scotch remains smooth on the palate.

The 0.7-litre bottle at 40% alcohol comes without gift packaging. A small splash of water can bring out the layers of smouldering spice and smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet smoke and clove combine for a spicy opening.
• Palate: Peat smoke runs through raisins and sultanas on the smooth palate. Apple, pear and orange zest bring freshness, while creamy vanilla and spices add sweetness and roundness.
• Finish: The long, warming finish combines smouldering oak spice with lingering smoke.

The story of Johnnie Walker began in 1820 with John Walker’s grocery shop in Kilmarnock, Scotland. Because individual single malts did not always taste the same at the time, Walker began blending whiskies to create a more consistent style. His early blends laid the foundations for the blending tradition of John Walker & Sons.

Johnnie Walker is now part of Diageo’s brand portfolio. Double Black is a blended Scotch whose character comes from the selection and blending of smoky, cask-influenced whiskies rather than the style of a single distillery.
