The 15-year-old Kavalan Four Cask Matured is the Taiwanese distillery’s first age-statement release. For this edition, introduced in 2025, Kavalan marries hand-selected whiskies from ex-bourbon, Oloroso sherry, ruby port and puncheon casks in small batches. The release is limited to 30,000 bottles and contains 43% alcohol.

The aromatic spectrum ranges from caramel apple, toffee and walnut through mandarin, plum and other citrus fruit to cranberry, raisin, longan, dark chocolate, coffee and cinnamon. Ripe fruit, sweet dessert notes and spice combine to create a rich, multilayered character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals caramel apple mousse, chocolate, a walnut and cinnamon roll, and creamy popcorn, alongside dried mandarin peel, plum, toffee and black dates.
• Palate: Bergamot, lemon, orange and grapefruit meet cranberry, raisin and longan on the palate; dark chocolate ice cream and caramel, walnut and coffee mousse add further depth.
• Finish: The finish is warm, combining wood with cinnamon spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Since its establishment in 2005, Kavalan Distillery, part of the King Car Group, has operated in Taiwan’s Yilan County. The warm, humid subtropical climate accelerates the interaction between the whisky and the cask wood. Kavalan uses water from the Snow Mountain range, while mountain and sea breezes shape the distillery’s setting.

Kavalan distilled this whisky in Yilan and released it as an official bottling. The composition includes spirits distilled as far back as 11 March 2006 and appeared in 2025 as the distillery’s first age-statement release. It therefore draws directly on Kavalan’s early production history.
