Special Features:

Launched internationally in 2024, Kavalan Lán was conceived with a distinctly floral profile. Its composition brings together whisky from bourbon casks, port casks and STR Vinho wine casks. The bourbon casks contribute fresh vanilla, the port casks add fruity and nutty aromas, while the shaved, toasted and re-charred Vinho casks provide caramel-like fruit sweetness.

Lán means orchid in Mandarin and also pays tribute to Yilan, where the distillery is located. The Chinese character is further linked to the names Kavalan and Yilan as well as to the King Car Group's peach orchid. Orchids and other flowers therefore form the whisky's deliberate aromatic theme.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals orchid, rose, jasmine, peony and orange blossom.
• Palate: On the palate, creamy vanilla, chocolate and caramel mingle with honeydew melon and fruit gums.
• Finish: The lingering finish fades with nuts, cinnamon and a woody aroma.

Distillery/Bottler:

Kavalan Distillery is located in Yilan in north-eastern Taiwan and belongs to the King Car Group. After the end of the state spirits monopoly, the group's founder, Tian-Tsai Lee, realised his plan to establish a privately owned Taiwanese whisky distillery. Construction began in 2005, the first new make flowed in March 2006, and the first Kavalan Single Malt was released in 2008. British chemist and whisky expert Dr Jim Swan played an important advisory role in establishing the distillery.

At its site, Kavalan handles every stage itself, from milling, mashing and fermentation to distillation, maturation and bottling. For Lán, the distillery combines the three cask components in its own distillery bottling, which joined the core range in 2024.
