Killepitsch brings together a wide variety of botanical ingredients in a family recipe that remains secret to this day. Only natural raw materials are used for this herbal liqueur: over 98 herbs, berries and fruits from around the world form its foundation. The ingredients are stored in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks; earthenware vessels were used in the past. Killepitsch is blended, not distilled as a finished liqueur.

In the glass, the liqueur is mahogany brown with reddish highlights. Its herbal spice combines with fruit and balanced sweetness. The 0.7-litre bottle contains Killepitsch at 42% alcohol. It can be enjoyed neat, slightly chilled or at room temperature, and can also lend a spicy herbal note to cocktails and desserts.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense herbal aromas lead on the nose. Dark berries and spices complement the bouquet, accompanied by subtle additional fruit notes.
• Palate: Killepitsch is full-bodied on the palate. Spicy herbs, berries and further fruit notes combine with pleasantly balanced sweetness.
• Finish: The bold, spicy finish lingers for a long time. Delicate herbal and spice notes remain.

Distillery/Bottler:

Killepitsch is produced by Likörfabrik Peter Busch GmbH & Co. KG in Düsseldorf. The family has been making spirits since 1858. Killepitsch itself was first served in 1955 at the opening of the Et Kabüffke tasting room in Düsseldorf's old town. The traditional account of how it got its name includes a conversation between Willi Busch and the writer Hans Müller-Schlösser during the Second World War.

When the premises in the old town became too small, a glass-fronted factory was established in Düsseldorf's Medienhafen at the end of 2005. Peter Busch and Katharina Busch work there as the fourth and fifth generations of the family. Production uses a process-controlled system with stainless steel vessels and two mixers, each with a capacity of 5000 litres. Two bottling lines, including one fully automatic line, handle bottling. Since 2025, a museum on the ground floor has displayed the original production equipment from the 1950s.
