Special Features:

The 15-year-old Knockando matures in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks. These two cask types combine the pronounced fruitiness of the Speyside single malt with sweet spices, dark chocolate, sherry and wood.

Alongside cooked or baked fruit, notes of apple, cinnamon and nutmeg emerge. Towards the end, the fruity and spicy impressions become milder as wood and roasted notes move to the foreground.

This non-smoky whisky is bottled at 43%. It is chill-filtered and contains added colouring; this shop variant is offered in a 0.7-litre bottle without a tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is expressive, revealing cooked fruit, sweet spices, dark chocolate and sherry.
• Palate: The whisky is intense and silky on the palate, where bold fruitiness combines with wood notes and a pronounced sherry influence to create a warming impression.
• Finish: The finish is long, fading with wood, sweet spices and fruity sherry notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Knockando was founded in 1898 by John Tytler Thomson in the Speyside village of the same name. Designed by Charles Doig, the distillery stands near the River Spey and the former Strathspey Railway; it began operating in 1899.

The distillery uses eight wooden washbacks and two pairs of copper stills. Fermentation times of around 50 and 100 hours produce spirits that are married before being filled into casks. This official bottling comes from Knockando Distillery itself.
