Special Features:

Kyrö Napue combines a rye base with plants and berries from Finland. Its production brings together three methods: dried herbs are cold-macerated, delicate spices are steam-distilled, and fresh ingredients are distilled separately. These fresh botanicals include birch leaves, sea buckthorn, cranberry and meadowsweet.

The gin was launched in 2014. Its name refers to Napue, the district of Isokyrö where the distillery is located and where the Battle of Napue took place in 1714. It is bottled at 42.6% alcohol in a 0.5-litre bottle.

Cranberries and a sprig of rosemary make suitable garnishes for a gin and tonic. The gin can also be enjoyed neat or in other cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers gentle citrus notes and mild juniper. Slightly sweet botanical impressions and birch notes add to the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, the gin is full-bodied and herbaceous. Pepper, rye and ethereal meadowsweet notes shape the flavour, accompanied by a sweetness reminiscent of rye bread.
• Finish: Pepper and distinctive rye flavours linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The idea for Kyrö Distillery Company arose when five friends tasted rye whisky together in a sauna. They wanted to use this grain, a staple of Finnish food culture, to make spirits as well. A disused dairy in Isokyrö became the home of their distillery, where distillation began in 2014. Finnish wholegrain rye remains the grain base of their spirits today.

The gin was developed while the first rye whiskies were maturing in casks, giving the young distillery a product it could sell during the wait. In 2015, Napue was named the best gin for gin and tonic at the International Wine & Spirit Competition. Within two days of the award being announced, the gin had sold out.
