Special Features:

The finish in casks previously used for Don Julio Añejo Tequila sets The Ink of Legends apart from other twelve-year-old Lagavulin special releases. This Islay single malt is part of the Spirited Xchange edition of the 2023 Diageo Special Releases. The distillery bottling was released in 2023 at its natural strength of 56.4%. It contains 0.2 litres, comes in a tube, and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Robust, medicinal peat and herbal smoke meet sea air, citrus, ripe berries, salt and dark plum. Mango, menthol and smoked chilli add further fruity, cooling and spicy accents.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Medicinal notes reminiscent of carbolic soap and embrocation come first. Herbal smoke and the scent of a driftwood fire follow. A little water brings out more maritime and dark-fruit notes, alongside a delicate savoury hint of grilled meat.
• Palate: The texture is creamy and mouth-filling. The taste starts sweet and citrusy, takes on salt and juicy plum, then grows increasingly herbal, smoky and tingling. A little water heightens the sweetness and smoke.
• Finish: The long finish is dry, salty and very smoky. A light savoury note lingers, while the aftertaste feels both cooling and warming.

Distillery/Bottler:

Lagavulin Distillery stands by a bay on Islay’s south coast, near Port Ellen. John Johnston founded the distillery in 1816. Lagavulin uses heavily peated malt and distils slowly: the first run takes around five hours, and the second more than nine.

Lagavulin is part of Diageo’s brand portfolio. The whisky in The Ink of Legends comes from Lagavulin Distillery and was released as a distillery bottling for the 2023 Special Releases.
