Special Features:

For this Chinese single malt, Laizhou combines a 72-hour fermentation with maturation in red wine casks from its own cooperage. The insides of the casks are scraped, toasted and re-charred using the STR process. This gives the whisky its distinctive fruit, toasted and woody character.

A proportion of peated malt adds delicate smoke to the rich red-wine fruit. The whisky is bottled at 46% alcohol, with natural colour and without chill filtration. Plum, toast, dark chocolate and smoke shape its complex profile, which has a silky texture on the palate.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals ripe apple, sweet smoky plum, tart and salty prune, and soft vanilla cream.
• Palate: On the palate, melting caramel and buttered toast mingle with lightly smoky oak, dark chocolate and a hint of cinnamon; the texture is full and silky.
• Finish: The long, warm finish offers lingering roasted nuts, chocolate and subtle oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Laizhou Distillery distils and bottles this whisky itself as an official distillery bottling. At its site in Qionglai, Sichuan Province, the distillery operates its own STR workshop, where more than 10,000 casks are prepared each year.

The integrated production complex comprises eight pot stills and seven columns. In-house cask preparation is an established part of the distillery’s operations and directly shapes this bottling through the specially prepared red wine casks.
