Special Features:

Two-stage wine-cask maturation sets this Distillery Edition apart: the whisky first matured in a cask that had held Chardonnay white wine, followed by a French oak cask that had previously contained Recioto red wine. It was distilled on 4 May 2018 and bottled on 12 November 2024.

Batch 3 comprises 130 bottles of 0.5 litres each. The single malt was bottled at 59.6% cask strength without chill filtration or added colouring and comes in a wooden box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The whisky initially appears gentle and lightly fruity on the nose. Ripe cherries and plums meet pronounced wood, nutty pastries and honey, while red-wine notes, apple, berries, a little lavender and sweet spice broaden the aromatic profile.
• Palate: The whisky is intense on the palate. Bold wood and honey accents combine with pear and a little pepper, complemented by concentrated red-wine notes, fruity sweetness, walnut and a creamy texture.
• Finish: The finish is long, combining sultanas, nutmeg and dark chocolate with lingering pepper and wood. Spice and fruit also remain present.

Distillery/Bottler:

Langatun Distillery AG makes its whiskies in the historic granary in Aarwangen, where it relocated production in 2014. Cask storage and maturation continue in Langenthal. The present-day distillery carries on the Baumberger tradition established in 1857.

Langatun produced this single malt and bottled it as Distillery Edition Batch 3 after its two-stage wine-cask maturation.
