Langatun Swiss Rye Whiskey
Special features: The Langatun Swiss Rye Whiskey is made from 100% rye and aged in so-called Krogemann barrels. These former wine barrels are revitalized and toasted, giving the whiskey spicy and vanilla notes. Additionally, it undergoes aging in red wine barrels that previously contained Merlot or Barolo, which adds depth and subtle fruitiness to the whiskey. Each bottling is hand-numbered, highlighting the individuality of each bottle.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Intense, aromatic, and sweet with grain and wine notes in balanced harmony, along with aromas of grape pomace, peach, and caramel.
- Palate: Pleasant and spicy, with the rye coming forward more strongly and the wine influence receding, accompanied by a subtle woodiness.
- Finish: Medium-long and dry with subtle fruit notes as well as aromas of vanilla and dried fruits.
Distillery/Bottler: The Langatun Distillery AG is located in the Kornhaus built in 1616 in Aarwangen, Switzerland. The history of the distillery dates back to 1857 when Jakob Baumberger founded the distillery. In 2005, Hans Baumberger III revived the tradition and began producing handcrafted single malts. Today, Langatun is the largest whiskey distillery in Switzerland and is known for aging and refining its whiskeys in various wine barrels.
