This twelve-year-old Islay single malt is an edition for global travel retail. It was initially launched across the Gebr. Heinemann network in October 2025 and has been available throughout global travel retail since January 2026.

It spent its entire twelve-year maturation in hand-selected ex-bourbon barrels made from American oak. The whisky is bottled at 46% without chill filtration or colouring, retaining its natural colour.

Its powerful coastal character remains clearly present despite the long maturation: stewed green apple, heather honey and vanilla sit alongside seaweed, tarry peat embers and medicinal notes. Herbs, liquorice and anise add depth to the palate, while iodine and a distinctly oily maritime note define the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sea salt and seaweed mingle with stewed green apple, heather honey and a tart hint of rhubarb. Vanilla, crisp pastry, hazelnut, dried orange peel, ginger, lemongrass and tarry peat embers emerge behind them.
• Palate: On the palate, carbolic soap, salt-crusted seaweed and a smouldering campfire meet blackcurrant, stone fruit, thyme, liquorice root and anise.
• Finish: The finish is sweet and powerful, with savoury spice giving way to iodine and a complex, oily note of mackerel.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Laphroaig Distillery on Islay’s southern coast was founded in 1815 by the brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston. Laphroaig itself bottles this twelve-year-old single malt. The brand and its Scottish distillery are part of the Suntory Global Spirits portfolio.

The distillery’s style is shaped by water from the Kilbride Stream, traditional floor malting and the slow, low-temperature smoking of the malt over Islay peat. Laphroaig now operates seven stills, and its historic kilns remain part of the production process. American oak ex-bourbon barrels bring vanilla to the fore without obscuring the peaty, maritime character.
